Surveys and field measures for nature conservation
Breeding in captivity
At the Herpetological Station in Hradec Králové (eastern Bohemia), threatened amphibian and reptile species are bred for restocking their populations in the wild. At a site where the respective species occur, adults are captured before their breeding: they mate and lay eggs. Consequently, they are released into the original site while larvae are reared at the Herpetological Station. Thus, the larvae mortality caused in the wild by damaging or destructing the site or by predators is fully removed. Larvae are released into the original site before their metamorphosis.
